Institute of Artificial Intelligence Innovation

Institute of Artificial Intelligence Innovation integrates the outstanding research faculty of NYCU in the fields of science, intelligence and information and communication, and establishes three research technology groups: "Group A-Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computing and Application", "Group B-Group Information Security and Information Engineering" and "Group C-Broadband Communication and Internet of Things". The brief introduction of each research group is as follows.

Artificial intelligence has become a very popular development topic in the field of science and technology. It combines big data science and data mining methods to analyze the precious meaning behind big data, and equipped with energy-saving computing systems for real-time analysis. Artificial intelligence technology can be widely used in our daily life, covering all kinds of smart applications such as smart transportation, smart medical care, smart factories and smart agriculture, and it is ubiquitous and has infinite potential. Group A focuses on the research and development of artificial intelligence, data science, energy-saving computing and application technology, and practice the spirit of Industry-Academia co-creation of the Institute of Industry-Academia Innovation School(IAIS). Group A would integrate the rich resources and excellent teachers of NYCU with cross-domain curriculum module teaching , and combine the Industry-Academia Research Center to actively cultivate talents in the fields of artificial intelligence, energy-saving computing systems and data science, so that they have the ability to lead innovation, have the ability to solve key technical problems, meet the needs of Taiwan's economic and industrial development, and have International outlook and global competitiveness. Through the AI talent sprint, it actively promotes Industry-Academia cooperation, drives the integration of AI technology with the industry, and leads the development and growth of Taiwan's technology. The talents trained by Group A have solid basic science and AI professional knowledge, comprehend cross-domain knowledge, and have AI engineering process and practical ability. In line with this goal, the course plan of Group A covers many courses in the field of AI with both depth and breadth, including basic AI theory, AI data analysis, AI energy-saving computing system and chip platform, AI smart application and other key directions. The important feature of this course is to build diversified practical applications in the field of AI that are close to the front-line needs of the industry and integrate software and hardware, such as drones, self-driving cars, reinforcement learning visual intelligence systems, video compression, AI chip design, factory automation testing, medical data analysis and AI robots, etc., provided students with the latest academic achievements, in-depth real-world scenarios, and directly learn how to "use AI to solve real-world problems" of AI engineering practice.
Information security is a multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary knowledge. The diversity lies in the ever-changing hacker attack methods. With the advancement of technology, it is even more innovative. Without strong knowledge and ability, it is very challenging to achieve information security. It includes the knowledge of information engineering, electrical engineering, statistics, mathematics and management science, etc. All technological fields and related applications that may be attacked by information security are all within the scope of research. In recent years, there have been frequent information security incidents, and the services and systems of major enterprises have been threatened by information security at different levels. Group B focuses on the development and application of information security technology, implements the spirit of Industry-Academia co-creation of Industry-Academia Innovation School, integrates the rich resources and excellent teachers of NYCU, and combines the Industry-Academia research center. Group B actively cultivates talents who meet the needs of enterprise information security protection and product development security, establishes a platform for cooperation with the industry, and integrates the school's information security energy to contribute to the industry. The planning courses of Group B would combine the existing relevant professional disciplines of the school as the core disciplines, such as programming, computer networks, database systems, machine learning, artificial intelligence and other basic disciplines. On the basis of solid basic discipline training, students could learn information security technology and concepts, and information security technology training and application in different fields, systems and application scenarios. The important feature of Group B is to construct diversified practical applications in the field of information and system security, which are close to the needs of the industry, and to train students to have the skills needed to deal with enterprise information security incidents and security product development. Our goal is to assist enterprises to introduce information security related applications and to analysis technologies, to solve information security incidents and problems faced by enterprises, and to promote the upgrading of Taiwan's high-tech industries.
Broadband communication and Internet of Things technology are key high-tech development industries in the world. Through ultra-high-speed data transmission and intelligent connection of people, devices, and data to achieve the purpose of Internet of Everything (IoE), it will bring great benefits, more application, and service value to the future society. Group C would practice the spirit of Industry-Academia co-creation of Industry-Academia Innovation school, focus on interdisciplinary curriculum module teaching, integrate the rich resources and excellent teachers of NYCU, and combine with the Industry-Academia Research Center to actively cultivate broadband communication and physical education. Talents in the networking field enable them to have the ability to lead innovation, to solve key technical problems, to meet the needs of Taiwan's economic and industrial development, and to have an international outlook and global competitiveness. The talent cultivation goal of Group C is to lay a solid foundation of scientific and professional communication network knowledge, comprehending cross-domain knowledge, and possessing engineering process and practical ability. In line with this goal, the curriculum planning of Croup C covers a wide range of courses in the field of broadband communication and the Internet of Things, including the basic theory of broadband communication, electromagnetic chips and components for broadband communication, intelligent IoT communication signals and systems, IoT applications and Optimization and other four key directions. The important feature of Group C is to build diversified practical applications in the field of broadband communication and the Internet of Things, which are close to industrial needs and integrate software and hardware, such as B5G/6G low-orbit satellites, self-driving array antenna radar sensing, smart factories and medical objects. Group C would provide students with academic research results in the development of the latest broadband communication and Internet of Things technologies, and practical fields provided by the industry. Students could directly learn how to solve real-world problems in engineering practice, and enable cross-domain research output to promote Taiwan's high-tech industry upgrades.
